Oktoberfest in Franklin

Oktoberfest began with the Royal Wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810.  The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the happy royal event. The fields were renamed Theresienwiese (“Theresa’s Fields”) to honor the Crown Princess, although the locals have since abbreviated the name simply to “Wies’n”.  Oktoberfest traditionally starts the third weekend in September and ends the first Sunday of October.  It is the largest festival in the world, with an international flavor characteristic of the 20th century.

If you can’t travel to Munich for Oktoberfest, no worries! You can go right to the British Beer Company in Franklin, a five minute walk to your new home at Montage Brookview.  They are also celebrating 20 years of serving and entertaining the Franklin community this year!  They have quite the assortment of appetizers, lunch specials and a delicious dinner menu.  Our favorite dish is their Shepherd’s Pie.  It’s loaded with beef and veggies and never disappoints!  Looking forward to eating this meal again during the fall season.

Their selection of beers is outstanding as well.  They offer a wide variety of beers on draft, such as IPA’s, Pale Ales, Pilsners and Stouts.

In observance of Oktoberfest, there are four tasty beers on the menu.  You can find them under “Guten Tag Bier” which is German for wicked good beer!

  • Brocktoberfest – A malty taste with notes of fresh baked crusty bread and a touch of caramel sweetness.
  • Copper Legend – Oktoberfest is malty, smooth and exceedingly drinkable.  Locally grown wheat from MA and Munich malt and noble hops.
  • Oxtoberfest – A golden to deep copper or light brown in color.  They are moderate to medium in body.
  • Weihenstephaner Festbier – A full rich bodied, hoppy, seasonal lager.  A deep gold color with lots of flavor.

Be sure to stop by for a bite to eat and sample a beverage.  Depending on what day or night you go, you can also take advantage of their many specials throughout the week.  On Monday, kids eat for free if an adult entrée is purchased.  On Tuesday, the entire family can dine in and enjoy the buy-one-get-one pizza.  They offer team trivia with prizes every Wednesday and live music every Friday night!  The British Beer Company is always a fun place for everyone!
