It’s finally the time of year for apple picking, apple crisps, football, and foliage.  A great farm to visit all year round is Phantom Farms, located at 2920 Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland, Rhode Island.  It is a quick 20 minute drive from Montage at Brookview.  There is so much to do and see at Phantom Farms.  You can pick your own apples, enjoy a hayride, have a bite to eat, sip on a delicious cup of coffee, and shop of course.  They have a great country store that has a variety of goods to please all.  They offer an abundance of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and beverages.  They have a nursery full of flowers, and when the holidays approach, you can even purchase a Christmas tree!

Phantom Farms is open year round.  The Farm Stand is open weekdays 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.   You can pick your own apples September through October daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  You may want to call ahead just to be sure that your favorite apples are in season.  Phantom Farms offers family fun for all.  You can inquire about hosting birthday parties throughout the fall as well as attending events and celebrations.  You can take part in a farm tour between September and October by taking a hayride through their apple orchard along with a tour of a cider mill and apple peeling room.

If you are looking to do something fun and enjoyable this week or upcoming weekend, be sure to visit Phantom Farms!

After you go apple picking, you can make a delicious Apple Crisp:

Easy Apple Crisp Recipe (Betty Crocker fan favorite)

Ingredients:

4 medium cooking apples (such as Rome Beauty, Granny Smith or Greening)

¼ cup firmly packed brown sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup water

1 cup all-purpose flour

2/3 cup granulated sugar

½ cup (1 stick) margarine or butter, soft enough to spread

Ice cream, if you like

Directions:

Heat the oven to 375º. Cut each of the apples into 4 sections on the cutting board, using a knife. Cut out the apple core and seeds. Peel apple sections.

Cut apple sections into slices (you should have about 4 cups). Put apple slices in the pan.

Put the brown sugar and cinnamon in the small bowl. Stir with a spoon until mixed. Sprinkle sugar mixture over apples. Pour the water over apples.

Put the flour, granulated sugar and margarine in the medium bowl. Mix with your hands until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle crumbly mixture over apples.

Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until apples are soft and topping is golden brown. Remove pan from oven. Cool for 10 minutes on the wire cooling rack.

Serve with ice cream or whipped cream, if you like.
